Alice 97.3's Summerthing Concert Review!

Okay, so Summerthing was this awesome free concert that Radio Alice 97.3 put on this past Sunday in Golden Gate Park!

A free concert in Golden Gate Park being headlined by Lifehouse?

I was there the moment I read about it online.

NO JOKE.

So, I was on BART at 9:30, in Daly City by 11...officially semi-lost at Golden Gate Park by 11:30.

That park is huge...just sayin'.

The show was kicking off as I made my way through the gate, and I thought about getting my "nourishment" (at a concert, whatev), but then I thought...I'll wait...probably should have stopped (due to going without water again all day...my bad), but oh well, and there was music to get to!

I literally just walked up to the front of the stage, found a spot where I could find myself able to stand all day at...by a barrier to lean on. LOL. It was all good!

Secondhand Serenade, who is all of one person, John Vesely, has very enjoyable, Yellowcard-ish sounding music. I had never heard any of his music before this afternoon, and you know, he sold me his cd. He has this cool vibe that I really dig, and I really like his voice. I actually got his cd, and what I have listened of it so far, it's really good!

Marie Digby was up next, and I was only aware of one of her songs, "Voice on the Radio", due to it being used for multiple David Cook fan videos. It fits...you'd have to hear the song to even to begin to understand...anyways...she was good.

The only song I knew that she did perform was a cover of Rihanna's hit, "Umbrella", that she was all is pronounced "Um-ber-rella", and told the crowd that was the correct pronunciation! I've always been aware of this.

Apparently she went to Berkley for like one year, and it was her first show in SF, so that was cool. I also enjoyed her music, so I am thinking I will be checking out her music as well.

Next up was The Last Goodnight. I knew exactly one of their songs, "Pictures of You", which is their hit, and so I knew it was going to be played last. They have this Maroon 5 vibe to them, which is cool. I can appreciate that. The lead singer, however, does not have quite the bravado that Adam Levine has, but more shows the band has under their belt, and another couple hits...they could be easily on their way.

It was during their set was when I had my "moment" with Jason Wade from Lifehouse.

So, toward the end of The Last Goodnight's set, I notice this guy by the stage, and I realize that he's really familiar to me, and so I'm like staring at him, trying to place him, and a few minutes later it all clicks in my head...

"THAT'S JASON WADE FROM LIFEHOUSE!"

And I am literally like "OMG", when I realize who is like a good few feet away, BUT STILL!

He sees me staring at him, realizing that I totally know who he is, watches the band play some more, and then goes off towards the tents backstage.

So, being up by the stage, I could easily see into the backstage area where the tents were, and I basically did not pay any attention to Ingrid Michaelson at all, cause I was too busy watching everyone and they momma meet Lifehouse backstage. You had to have a pass to get back there and meet them, but I was like dang. LOL.

Also during that chick's set The Last Goodnight was signing autographs and taking pictures with every single fan that asked for one. I'm not kidding. I didn't partake, due to them being pretty swarmed already, but for a semi-well known band to do that. Pretty dang cool.

Then around 3:30...it was time for Lifehouse! HOLLA!

Here's what they played!

Make Me Over
Spin
Am I Ever Gonna Find Out
Quasimodo/Interlude
Hanging By A Moment
Somebody Else's Song
From Where You Are
Better Luck Next Time
Whatever It Takes
You and Me
First Time
Broken

Due to the freaking cold, my throat hurt, so I couldn't cheer as much as I would have liked, but whatev. I sang along to every song. And, I mean every song. Like there are not a lot of bands that I know every single word to every one of their songs. In fact...off the top of my head...I can name six, including Lifehouse.

I have this connection with their music. Like "Hanging By A Moment" can mean different things to different people. And I have this "three track" rule about buying cds. I have to like at least three tracks...it would be those same 6 bands I now break my own rule for, but when "HBAM" came out...I was just in awe of that song. To the point that I literally walked to the record store and bought my first Lifehouse album in like...2001, because I loved that song. And the whole album...oh my gosh. It was a great debut album!

Anyways, I love seeing my favorite bands live, because you get to have that connection with them as you watch them play your favorite music. I can only imagine what goes through Jason Wade's mind when he sees people singing along, writing the words he wrote? That would boggle my mind, yet still be pretty awesome.

I am also a big believer in small production shows being better and more intimate than huge shows with flashy lights and just unnecessary things. Lifehouse is definitely the band I enjoy seeing the most in an intimate setting. Granted, Golden Gate Park isn't really all that intimate, but when you're up close by the stage, you tend to not focus on the thousands of people sitting behind you. :oP

And the thing about Lifehouse's music, is that I have always been able to relate to the lyrics in one way or another, and seeing them live completely sparked up my love for their music....AGAIN.

So, all in all, Summerthing was super awesome!

It was a great way to kick off the start to my summer shows, and it was just awesome.

Also! I am recommending that you check out & support some awesome music!

Have a good one!

The David's on The View!

Both David Cook and David Archuleta were on The View this morning!

Here are the videos incase you missed it, or just wanted to check it out again!

Okay...I love my soulful little bobblehead's haircut! And he sounded fantastic.

I thought it was awkward how they randomly interviewed Jeff Archuleta, but hey, whatever makes good TV, right?

And I must say that this way by far, my absolute favorite performance of Cookie singing, "Time of My Life".

BY FAR.

George Carlin Died. :o(

From Reuters:

Comedian George Carlin dies in Los Angeles at 71
Mon Jun 23, 2008 1:29am EDT

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Comedian George Carlin, a counter-culture hero famed for his routines about drugs and dirty words, died of heart failure at a Los Angeles-area hospital on Sunday, a spokesman said. He was 71.

Carlin, who had a history of heart and drug-dependency problems, died at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica about 6 p.m. PDT (9 p.m. EDT) after being admitted earlier in the afternoon for chest pains, spokesman Jeff Abraham told Reuters.

Known for his edgy, provocative material, Carlin achieved status as an anti-Establishment icon in the 1970s with stand-up bits full of drug references and a routine called "Seven Words You Can Never Say On Television." A regulatory battle over a radio broadcast of the routine ultimately reached the U.S. Supreme Court.

In the 1978 case, Federal Communications Commission vs. Pacifica Foundation, the top U.S. court ruled that the words cited in Carlin's routine were indecent, and that the government's broadcast regulator could ban them from being aired at times when children might be listening.

Carlin's comedic sensibility often came back to a central theme: humanity is doomed.

"I don't have any beliefs or allegiances. I don't believe in this country, I don't believe in religion, or a god, and I don't believe in all these man-made institutional ideas," he told Reuters in a 2001 interview.

Carlin, who wrote several books and performed in many television comedy specials, is survived by his wife Sally Wade, and daughter Kelly Carlin McCall.

David Cook: "American" Made

From Tulsa World:

'American' made

By CARY ASPINWALL World Scene Writer
6/22/2008
Last Modified: 6/22/2008 3:31 AM

To People, he's just another hot bachelor. To us, he's the man.

The waiting line to interview "American Idol" winner David Cook is now quite long, and a metro newspaper from his most recent place of residence doesn't rank near the top of the list these days.

Ahead on the list are US Weekly, People magazine (which just named Cook to its list of "hottest bachelors"), Rolling Stone, Larry King, coast-to-coast radio stations, Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel, Regis & Kelly, the Today Show.

It's been about a month since his slam-dunk, 12-million-vote victory on "American Idol," and Cook is still in high demand.

"I can maybe get you 10 or 15 minutes on the phone with him while he's in the car on his way somewhere," a publicist says.

He makes no promises, and wonders: "Can you e-mail questions instead?"

A few months back, Cook was just a Tulsa bartender-musician toying with the idea that "American Idol" could be his ticket to the rock-star success he'd always dreamed about. Some of his friends laughed when he told them he was going on the show. He didn't even plan on trying out at first, just tagged along to support his little brother.

But Cook's rocker style, gravelly voice and switch-ups of classic songs struck a chord with fans during this season of "Idol." He morphed into a frontrunner and has been setting up shop on the Billboard charts ever since. Did anyone see that coming?

Cook reportedly text-messaged one of his Tulsa friends back in February, because he was excited about his first Tulsa World interview as a solo artist. He was witty, polite and asked to pass along a "hello" to a music writer and photographer he'd met back when he was playing with the Midwest Kings.

The publicist calls back, after canceling twice. "We can get you sometime in July, maybe."

They grow up so fast.

David Cook yawn

At our pre-arranged phone interview time, the phone rings. Another publicist: "We're running about 15 minutes behind."

Twenty minutes later: "He has an appointment. Can we do it at 1 p.m.?"

At 1 p.m. sharp, Cook is on the phone and laughing about how much has changed in the past few months. He's no longer a bartender trying to give away copies of his own album. He is headline news on gossip Web sites, snagging top spots on Billboard charts, peering at you from magazine covers at the checkout stand. Your "American Idol."

Cook's average day now lasts from about 7 a.m. to 10 or 11 p.m. with a packed schedule of interviews, rehearsals, song writing and studio work, and performances. As he's describing this, he lets out a giant, audible yawn over the phone. He is beyond tired.

"I had to schedule that, so " Cook jokes. "I would almost be willing to pay an exorbitant amount of money for a nap."

The work, he sees as fun. The celebrity stuff is weirding him out a bit.

"It's weird, because it sounds so cliche, but it's really the truth — I got into music to play music, so the whole celebrity aspect of it — I can see the absurdity," he says. "If it's what I've got to do to allow me to play music, then so be it."

Even if it means ending up on People magazine's list of this year's "hottest" bachelors?

"How absurd is that, honestly?" he says. "It's a bit unnerving. I mean, I'm honored and very appreciative. But I think if you ask my friends to describe me I don't know — I'm a goober, man. I'm a ham."

Beyond the Gray Snail

Even when Cook sneaked back to Tulsa a few weeks ago to hang out with some of his friends incognito, he learned life as a regular guy may be over, at least for now.

"We were eating dinner in the back room of the Celebrity Club (near 31st Street and Yale Avenue), because I wanted to take everybody out to dinner and say 'Thank you,' " he recalls. "And the waiters had to keep coming in and out of the room, so I guess some people saw when they opened the door that we were there, so they sort of crouched by the door and waited, and sort of bombarded us. They were really nice, though. But they totally got caught sneaking."

He does miss being able to hang out with friends as much as he'd like, driving around a town he knows and playing acoustic sets at the Gray Snail, he says.

"There's something very ethereal in that," he says. "There's something very romantic about the Midwest."

Not that he would trade any of his current success, considering he's recording a major-label album, getting the full Hollywood treatment and dating former Idol star Kimberly Caldwell ("She's amazing," he shares).

And he got to give "Little Miss Sunshine" an iPod.

Cook and cutie pie, A-list actress Abigail Breslin — star of "Little Miss Sunshine" — were booked on the same "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" episode a few weeks ago. He heard during her interview that she lost her iPod in New York. So a couple days later, he gave her a new one, because she had told him she was a huge "American Idol" fan, he says. She did not mention whether she rooted for him over runner-up David Archuleta, however.

A Cook’s tour

Soon, David Cook will perform throughout the country as part of the “American Idols Live” tour, which wraps up in Tulsa on Sept. 13 at the new BOK Center. Which is exactly where Cook joked about playing “someday” during his Tulsa World interview when he first made the cut for the top 24.

Did he know something we didn’t? Wasn’t he just half-kidding at the time? Is he a guitarshredding, song-reinventing, hot bachelor who can belt rock ballads and predict the future? “How nuts is that?” he says. He’s just as surprised as the rest of us. But he’s glad it happened this way.

“It’s just cool,” he says. “It’s going to be this real cool, celebratory vibe for all of us, because everyone from the top 10 has something good coming their way after the tour ends, so that show’s going to be like the wrap party. But it’s especially great for me, because it’s in Tulsa.”

This is probably one of the better articles out about the craziness that is David Cook's world right now.

And I love that he bought Abigail Breslin a new iPod.

Very awesome.

The tour kicks off in a little over a week!

"David Cook shoots, scores national anthem gig"

From BostonHerald.com:
David Cook shoots, scores national anthem gig
By Herald wire services
Wednesday, June 11, 2008 - Updated 2h ago

“American Idol” David Cook may be a die-hard Chicago Bulls fan, but last night he knew his performance singing the national anthem before Game 3 was going to be part of hoop history.

“It’s the Lakers and the Celtics [team stats],” said the new Idol and all-around sports fan. “I think this is one of those quintessential rivalries in sports. I’m just honored to be here.”

Got any predictions, Dave?

“I think its going to go seven games, and then it’s whoever shows up,” he said, adding that he did hope to say hey to Celtics’ Big Ticket Kevin Garnett last night.

The Missouri boy, who grew up Idolizing Jeff Hornacek, said pulling the oh-say-can-you-see duty at the NBA Finals is among the Top 3 coolest things he’s done since being crowned American Idol.

He put visiting a children’s hospital in New York and appearing on the “Tonight Show” with Jay Leno as his first and second picks.

David did amazing, and I cannot believe how many of David's fans feel like his performance was a let down.

It totally was not a let down by any means.

He sang the song the way it is supposed to be sang, and he hit those high notes.

He did both those things while being in his own words, "petrified".

I don't get it.

Video: David Cook Singing the Nat'l Anthem

Here's David's performance of the National Anthem, earlier tonight at The Staples Center for the NBA Finals game three.

Yes, he looked panicked.

However, he still sounded great!

David Cook to be in Rolling Stone Magazine!

From ET Online(and no, I still do not watch ET on TV!):

The "Idol" winner talks about music with Rolling Stone.

DAVID COOK nabbed 55 million votes to win "American Idol" last month, and now he's opening up to Rolling Stone magazine about how he ended up on the show in the first place.

Cook, who didn't mean to audition for "Idol," only going to the audition in Omaha, NE, as moral support for his brother, ANDREW, tells the rock and roll mag that success didn't come to him overnight.

"The overnight thing is nice and romantic," Cook says in an interview during his first trip to New York City, continuing, "But in this particular instance, it's not the case."

Cook explains that he had musical aspirations from a young age -- he first sang in public in second grade, and he played first the violin, and next, the guitar, during his childhood. He also participated in talent competitions, and went on to form his first band at age 15. It was only after years of being in bands and doing solo projects that he took the "Idol" stage.

Since winning "Idol," Cook has signed a record deal with 19 Recordings/RCA and has come close to breaking records -- 11 of his songs registered on Billboard's Hot 100 shortly after he triumphed on "Idol," according to Rolling Stone, which reported that the only musical act to best that record was the BEATLES in 1964.

And Cook is confident in his own style. While he admires fellow "Idol" rockers BO BICE and CHRIS DAUGHTRY, he tells Rolling Stone: "I don't want to make a Chris Daughtry record, I want to make a David Cook record. I feel like I know who I am."

Rolling Stone's profile on David Cook will appear in the June 26, 2008, issue.

I really hope he's on the cover.

Seriously, if Clay Aiken can be on the cover of Rolling Stone and not even win, then David deserves the cover.

HOLLA.

"One bed, David Cook and me"

WHOA.

I got your attention, right?

LOL.

From Kansas City Star:

One bed, David Cook and me

The truth can now be told: I’ve shared a bed with the new American Idol, David Cook, the darling of Blue Springs.

Until now I’ve never been the kiss-and-tell type. But, hey, I figured I’d enjoy 15 minutes of fame as much as the next person.

While the tawdry secrets are oozing out, I’ll go all the way: The shared bed was in “The Elvis Room.” Velvet paintings of the King are prominently featured, and his hips swivel back and forth with each tick of the Elvis wall clock. The space is packed with memorabilia, from a stuffed Elvis hound dog to the Elvis cow figurine from the KC CowParade.

Dave (his buddies call him Dave, you know) hadn’t been there before. Truth be known, I’ve frequented the Elvis Room many a time over the years. Oh, please, don’t think I’m bad! But since you’re twisting my arm, I’ve also been to his dorm when he was in college.

This was all long before he was the hottest thing in the music and reality TV world. The Elvis Room episode occurred after Axium, his band at the time, played a gig at a dive bar in St. Louis on a snowy weekend in early January 2004.

OK, OK, before your middle-aged, overweight newspaper columnist decimates the sexy reputation of the country’s latest musician heartthrob — or finds herself called a cradle-robbing “cougar” — I’d best confess.

The American Idol and I weren’t exactly in bed in the Elvis Room at the same time. In fact, I’ve never met the guy.

But all the other parts are true, cross my menopausal heart and hope to die! You see, the Elvis Room is a guestroom in the home of my friend St. Louis Sue, who is an Elvis collector. She and I have been friends longer than David Cook has been alive. So I visit her at least twice a year, always sleeping in — you guessed it — the King’s lair.

The new American Idol enters the theme room of yesteryear’s American idol through my friend’s daughter Rae, who met Cook when both were attending the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. I went to see Rae on campus numerous times during her years there.

She and her college pals fell in love with Cook’s band, which played frequently in Warrensburg, Kansas City and throughout the Midwest.

So it was Rae on the other end of St. Louis Sue’s phone that bitterly cold January night: “Um, Mom, remember how when I was in high school and you were always saying I should bring my friends home more? And remember that band I make you listen to when you’re in my car? Well, they’re in town and need a place to stay.”

Which is how four band members and a girlfriend ended up camped at my friend’s place. After she beat Cook at a round of Elvis trivia, he chose the Elvis Room to crash in. The rest, as they stay, is history.

And, no, she snapped no photos of that fateful encounter, has no mementos to hawk on eBay. They were just a bunch of nice college kids her daughter brought home. Like the four musicians from Sweden that Rae befriended — they stayed a full week, and Sue had to cook for them. And the white cat Rae brought home when she was a little girl that ended up staying 15 years. So truly, it was lucky Cook and company were only a one-night stand.

You just never know — today’s houseguest may be tomorrow’s American Idol.

Andrew Cook: "Don't Count Me Out"

From MyFox Kansas City:

David Cook's Lil' Bro: Don't Count Me Out

He's known as David Cook's little brother, but ask him if he ever tires of hearing that, and Andrew will say absolutely not.

"It's not going to hurt if someone says 'Oh, it's David Cook's brother' because it's just a fact," he said. "I'm David Cook's brother. There's no getting around that."

By now the world now knows it's because of Andrew that David auditioned for American Idol. And while David is living his brother's rock and roll dream, Andrew still has plans for stardom himself.

"Right now, I'm in the writing process," he said. "And I have one of my brother's friend from an old band of his who's helping me write some songs too."

And although Andrew can write, he readily admits he's not so great at the guitar ... or piano ... or drums.

"I play air drums and air guitar because I am instrumentally declined," he said.

He's just a singer he says - a singer with a lot of friends who know how to strum real guitar strings and are willing to help him out. And it doesn't hurt his big brother is an American Idol.

"A lot of David's fans have turned their ears towards my music, and they've been just as supporting," he said.

So while his brother tours the country, Andrew said his plans are to play closer to home.

"I just want to do what David did and play around town," he said.

And it's likely he'll establish his own fan club. After all, he does have talent. let's not forget, he's David Cook's little brother.

Be sure to check out Andrew's music MySpace page at: http://www.myspace.com/acookmusic

He's got a great voice, it must run in the family!

How much do I love The Soup for having David Cook do that?

American Idol's Blake Lewis Wants His iPod to Do Unspeakable Things

Hey, remember Season 6 of 'American Idol'? Remember that guy, what's-his-name, the hot one that did beatboxing and almost won but then didn't? Well, he didn't need your deciding votes! Runner-up Blake Lewis is doing just fine, thank you – after being ranked 21st-hottest on AOL's 21 sexiest single men list last July (aw, that's kinda sad actually), he cut an album with Arista records, and Lupe Fiasco was on it!

May 13th marked the release of his latest endeavor, a remix EP for the hit single "How Many Words." Even though he's rolling with big name producers and DJs like BT, DJ Dan, and Britney collaborator Dave Aude, he still found time to tell Switched about his sex, um, we mean, tech life. Read on to find out more, but Blake, you're a winner in our book!

What gadgets do you always bring with you to the set?

Computer, Phone, Camera.

What cell phone do you have right now and what do you love/hate about it?

iPhone. Love it all except for text messaging...

Who's the last person you sent a text message to and what was it about?

The artist and my friend BT - it was about my shoes

Where do you go (site or service) pretty much every time you get online?

MySpace because I run and operate [my profile page] cuz I like talking to my fans. I also go to beatport.com and deviantart.com

What annoys you most about your iPod, cell phone, or laptop (or any other gadget)?

Dropped calls on the phone

Name one thing you wish your iPod/cellphone/laptop (any gadget) could do that it doesn't do now?

Make me breakfast in the morning, give me a massage when I am stressed, give me a reach around... just kidding

What upcoming gadget can you not wait to get your hands on?

An updated version of the iPhone

You're stranded on a desert island: What gadget do you bring?

Hopefully a gadget that can get me off the desert island... :)

What's the most-played song or artist on your iPod?

Edit - 'Certified Air Raid Material'

BlackBerry, Sidekick, or Treo?

Neither, iPhone

What's the longest time you've ever spent playing a video game in one sitting and what game was it?

Blake Lewis Talking About New Projects

Blake talks about how he learned how to beat box, as well as discussing new projects!!

I am super stoked that Blake has so much lined up career-wise...one of those things being performing this summer in Modesto at X-Fest, and yours truly will be there!

YEAH!

David Cook Performs for WalMart Shareholders

Here is David performing, "The World I Know" and "Time Of My Life" for the WalMart shareholders.

Probably one of his best performances of "TOML" he's done since winning.

And he's definitely starting to come in to his own stage persona on stage.

Is it tour time, yet?

I Really Don't Want to Like This Show

So, the other night I was waiting to fall asleep, and I was just flipping channels, one, because it was like one in the morning, and two, I was trying to figure out what channels were what on our new system. For weeks I only needed to know what channel Fox was on for American Idol and I totally wasn't watching anything else on TV.

So, I found the E! Network and saw that Denise Richards - It's Complicated.

Honestly, I am not a fan of Reality TV. Seriously. Stop laughing.

I just tend to have a very love/hate relationship with Reality TV.

And for some reason, a good portion of my favorite shows end up being reality shows.

I mean, American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, Big Brother, The Hills, Top Chef, Kathy Griffin, Flipping Out, The Bachelor (on occasion - don't judge me), which leave the door open to liking shows like Denise Richards - It's Complicated.

So, in order to stay away from this show, I opted not to watch it AT ALL. And, this held true until the other night, and I was like well...it's this or go to sleep. I chose the show.

And honestly, she's pretty normal. Well, her swearing is excessive, and she owns as many shoes as I own CDs. Crazy.

My favorite part was when she told off the tabloid journalist. If you could even call that lady a journalist. She was so rude to Denise, when Denise was basically giving her a free interview, and this "journalist" just wanted dirt.

EW.

Anyways, I find this show, oddly enough, fairly interesting.

And I really didn't want to like this show, and I do.

However, DO NOT ask me to watch that Dina Lohan show. No way, no how.

Seriously.

David Archuleta Signs with Jive Records

From People.com:

David Archuleta Gets a Record Deal
June 5, 2008

So what if he didn’t win American Idol! David Archuleta has inked a record deal with 19 Recordings/Jive Records, the same label winner David Cook is signed to.

“Signing a record contract with 19 Recordings/Jive Records is truly a dream come true,” Archuleta said in a statement. “I’m really excited to start working on everything.”

The 17-year-old Utah native already has three songs on the Hot 100 chart, including his memorable rendition of “Imagine” and “In This Moment,” the song he performed at the Idol finale.

Simon Fuller, the mastermind behind Idol and the chief executive of 19 Entertainment Label Group, called Archuleta a “genuine pop star” and said he “has a great future ahead of him.”

Still, Archuleta remains humble and cautious, telling PEOPLE last month that “school is really important, especially after all this ends. It would be nice to make a living off of it but you never know.”

Fans of Archie, as Cook affectionately calls him, should expect his debut album later this year. Up first: The Idols Live Tour, which starts July 1 in Arizona. –Shari Weiss

Congrats to my "soulful little bobblehead"!!!!

I actually think that Jive Records is a great fit for Archie, hopefully he'll put out a good album.

So, Cookie and Archie have record deals...I wonder who's next from this season?

Hmmm....
