FULL CIRCLE
Current mood: accomplished
Category: Music

I've been longing to blog, but I have been lacking internet Access and sufficient time and energy to sit down and dig in... well tonight's the night, as I just enjoyed a productive and semi relaxing day off here in Lexington, Kentucky. My first time to Kentucky by the way, I did not know what to expect, but it was rather lovely. I wasn't sure what there was to do around here, so after taking care of business for the first part of the day, Ramiele, Syesha and I decided to make our way to our trusty stand by, the mall. Sounds exciting right... well actually it might not have been exciting but we did have a very interesting cab ride, the driver was quite the character, like straight out of a movie, I wish I could explain but I don't think I can, LOL:) Any who, we got to see how green this place is, lots of trees and very pleasant weather for a summer day!

So we made our way around the mall at a snail's pace, as we often get stopped about every two feet and get asked that familiar question... "Are y'all from American Idol?" It's funny because my appearance is generally not what gives me away, but the not so subtle speaking voice... people ALWAYS say "I recognized your voice". I guess I've never been able to disguise my voice, even when I was a kid I would attempt to trick my friends on the phone and try to pretend to be someone else, and sure enough I would always get "C'mon Brooke, I know it's you". Any way today I decided to give my skin a break and go make-up free and opted for the comfortable flat shoes today (it's my day off) which then usually prompts "you look different" and "you're much smaller than you look on TV"... and then I say "yep:)" which then is almost always followed by "do you mind if we can take a picture" , then usually causing a domino effect, with one picture turning into multiple pictures with every person in the surrounding area with a camera phone, and this is when I am wishing I had at least put on some lip gloss:) Oh well, by now I have given up on trying to look "all dolled up" every time I am about to venture out into the world, after all I am just a normal gal. What someone sees on TV or on the stage is generally the creation of a talented professional. Truth be told, it is a bizarre life these days, as I am reminded everyday that I walk outside the door, 30 million people really do watch this show! Who knows however, how long this new life will last, as the spot light fades with time. I hope for a sustaining career in music, but I think it's safe to say after all this, I have found that I'm not motivated by the fame, but by the music itself. Not to say in any way that I don't find joy in connecting with genuine and sincere fans, I absolutely do!!! Hard to explain...

It was around 3:30 am when we pulled into Philadelphia on our buses and made our way up to the hotel rooms. As I was trying to fall back asleep for a few hours before the day began, I found myself not able to shut down my mind, as usual. As I looked at my iphone, I noticed the date, we are in August of 2008. That is when I had the crazy realization that It was almost exactly a year ago to the date that I had taken that red eye flight alone from Arizona to Philadelphia to embark on a journey that little did I know was going to dramatically change my life. That morning I had a little time and decided to take a walk around the city. I walked passed the quaint hotel that I stayed in during the audition week. I went back to the Anthropologie where I had last year spent quiet time sitting and thinking in a beautiful floral chair anxiously and nervously anticipating what the future would bring. I then made my way past a shoe store that I had noticed a pair of vintage looking boots handcrafted of fine italian leather, except this time I went inside and tried them on... that's when I looked at my watch and realized it was time to check out, grab my bags and make my way to the bus, I went to take off the boots only to find the zipper completely stuck and tangled up in the nylon sock I had on underneath them, I started to panic both in fear of missing the bus, and having to buy the boots, they were awesome, however the were over $500... Long story long, I was able to break free, I made it on the bus, oh and I did not buy the boots:)

We then traveled a short distance to the venue, Wachovia Stadium, my starting place. When we arrived I walked out to the parking lot to meet and greet the fans, the very same parking lot where I stood in line in the darkness of the early morning at 4:30 am. After press and the indoor meet and greet, we were standing on the stage for soundcheck and thats when it really hit me. That night as I was waiting underneath the stage to make my entrance on the piano for my set, I could hear Carly sing "I drove all night", I turned to one of the crew members and said "this is where it all began"... Suddenly I felt a surge of excitement and nervousness to get on that stage and perform. Right after I had finished Let it Be, I turned and pointed to the very top of the stadium in section 221A where I had waited nearly twenty hours for my audition for American Idol, and I said, "and to think that in a years time, I have gone from sitting up there to performing here on this stage, is very surreal"... Truly I felt overwhelmed, and grateful for this unbelievable experience that had in fact come FULL CIRCLE !! Wow, I've said it before, and it won't be the last time, I can't believe that I have come this far, that I have been blessed with such an opportunity! It has been a journey both amazing and challenging... I am thankful to all who helped me to make it possible. There are still somedays that I find myself unsure of my own abilities to arise to the challenges that come with fulfilling your dreams, but I am filled with gratitude for faith, family, friends and fans that provide me with strength and the support that I need to keep on moving! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you...

And the journey continues, but as for now, it is time to go to bed... Goodnight!!!

Music Inspires Good.

I didn't write this, my friend Kristy did, but this is a cause that I have chosen to get involved with, and I think it's awesome and I hope it inspires you!

Cancer is a disease that has touched everyone in some way…one that we all have a desire to fight. A few years ago, I lost my grandma to cancer and I've seen several family members struggle with the disease. But, despite this personal connection, I haven't really done anything tangible to join the fight against cancer. Until now. An inspiring project has recently come to my attention that has motivated me to stand up against cancer…and I'm hoping that you guys are willing to join me.

A few months ago, as my pop culture savvy friends know, David Cook won American Idol. During the show, he wore an awareness wristband in support of a little girl who is battling leukemia. He displayed an "AC" on his guitar as a shoutout to his brothers, one of whom has been battling brain cancer for over a decade. When David became the reigning Idol, he passionately spoke of his desire to use his newfound visibility to do his part to eradicate cancer.

His fans listened. Last month, a group of fans joined the American Cancer Society with the goal of raising $10,000 in honor of David Cook by the end of the American Idol Summer Tour. The project came to my attention when they were just a few thousand shy of that goal – a goal which, as of last week, has been surpassed. We're not stopping now. The new goal is to raise $26,000 for the ACS by David's 26th birthday on December 20.

As a David Cook fan, I'm proud that his visibility and passion for this cause has inspired so many people to jump onboard. I'd be willing to bet that, even if you've never heard a David Cook song (or if you still believe that Archuletta was robbed J), this is a movement that you can get behind.

I'm excited by the fact that a musician has served as a catalyst to unite so many people for such a worthwhile cause. I pledged to raise money for the American Cancer Society and I'm asking my friends and family to support my effort. With the donations raised, the American Cancer Society will continue to make progress in the fight against cancer.

The ACS has made it ridiculously easy for you to join the fight. You can make a donation online by simply clicking on the link to my personal page at the bottom of this message (there is also a link to my fundraising team to see how well my friends and I are doing together). Any amount that you can donate would be greatly appreciated…and I'd be willing to bet that your day will be brightened just knowing that you've done something to help eradicate a disease that has hurt far too many people.

Please pass on this link to anyone who you think would be interested in contributing. Thanks for your support!

Team Roger Rabbit Progress.

Our team name, "Team Roger Rabbit" came from "Project Roger Rabbit", which now may never come to fruition, due to the Idol PTB.

However, we decided to take something fun, and turn it into something awesome!

If you can donate, please do!

Know that ever little bit helps.

And for those who have no idea what "Project Roger Rabbit" is...

ENJOY.

DANCE MAVID DANCE!

Some words from Michael Johns:

OH you are awesome we are bucking the system dont worry. If the fans walk out or boo or scream for Mavid Dance Mavid Dance then we'll win

Dave and i are sick of being treated like we dont know what our fans want. You know we love all you guys and want to entertain you.

DANCE MAVID DANCE!!!

An Open Letter to AI PTB.

Dear American Idol or whoever told David Cook and Michael Johns to end their "foolishness",

I'm sorry, but did I vote for you to win American Idol? No, I did not. I spent two hours every single Tuesday this season (plus the crazy four hours during top 2) voting for David Cook.

So, if the AMERICAN IDOL and his homeboy Michael Johns want to rock some random, yet super awesome dance moves for the fans who voted them on that stage, what exactly is the problem?

I mean, are you saying that two grown men, cannot dance randomly for the fans if they want to?

SERIOUSLY?

Myself, I went to three shows. Meaning, I paid money for three shows (Yeah, THREE SHOWS), and let me tell ya'll something, the "MAVID" dance that started at my first show in Fresno, CA was just the icing on the cake at all three of those shows.

My friends and I have been up at night waiting to know what the latest move was, because the "Mavid" dance has become the phenomenon of the summer tour, sort of like last summer's "Cake Medley". And I know plenty of message boards, whose members also wait around for the first video to pop up.

Personally, you're ruining OUR FUN. The "Mavid" dance is something the fans, and not just David Cook and Michael Johns fans, but American Idol fans look forward to after every concert night.

And these guys are entertainers and goofs. If they want to act like huge dorks and dance for the fans, who are you to judge? The competition is OVER. There's a winner, and he and Michael Johns want to dance.

SO LET THEM.

A fan who had their fun taken away,

Kirsten

Clay Blogs About Baby!

I am way too amused by this!

LOL!

From Clay Online:

Hello All…

I know it’s been a while. I’m sure you know, it’s been a full full summer. Sorry we haven’t spoken in so long. But, I’m sure you know… I hate putting the cart before the horse. Not my way to tempt fate. But I wanted to stop by, if only for a second, so you could be the first folks I tell…. HE’S HERE!

My dear friend, Jaymes, and I are so excited to announce the birth of Parker Foster Aiken (No hyphens. One first name. One middle name. One last name.)

Parker was born at a hospital in North Carolina just this morning at 8:08 AM. Wow… 8:08 ..08/08/08

Weighed in at 6 lbs 2 oz and measured 19 inches

The little man is healthy, happy, and as loud as his daddy. Mama Jaymes is doing quite well also.

The Aiken family, the Foster family, and the Parker family are all thrilled.

We’ll share more at some point in the future. Love to you all!

I so just figured out where they got Parker from.

That is Clay's mom's last name.

Interesting.

Clay Aiken is a Baby Daddy, Ya'll!

From TMZ.com

The Claby Cometh!

Posted Aug 8th 2008 12:10PM by TMZ Staff

Clay Aiken's baby mama has popped!

Aiken's mother told local Raleigh, N.C. TV station that the "American Idol" runner-up was now the proud papa of a bouncing baby boy named Parker Foster Aiken.

Aiken's BFF, 50-year-old record producer Jaymes Foster, gave birth at 8:08 AM this morning in an "undisclosed location." TMZ was the first to tell you he had inseminated Foster.

Aiken's mother Faye said the dark-haired Parker weighed in at 6 lbs. 2 oz and was 19" long. She says her son is "smiling from ear-to-ear."

Mom, dad and baby all are doing fine, according to Faye.

Aiken and Foster, who met when Clay appeared on "A.I.," will raise their spawn together.

Well congrats to Clay and Jaymes!

I can only imagine the punchlines coming from the late-night shows.

Is it bad that I'm totally looking forward to hearing them?

Probably.

:oP

"Cookin' along, fueled by 'Idol'"

From Boston.com

Cookin' along, fueled by 'Idol'
Tour, debut album keep singer busy

By Sarah Rodman, Globe Staff | August 8, 2008

David Cook, victor of the seventh season of "American Idol," is in good spirits on the phone from the Albany, N.Y. tour stop of the "American Idols Live" tour. "The response has been great to everyone," says the 25-year-old from Blue Springs, Mo.

Cook is currently whirling through the now-familiar frantic schedule of his predessors - playing a nationwide tour with his fellow finalists while jetting off to various studios between gigs to record his debut album with respected producer Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance) for 19 Recordings/RCA. Cook says the album is slated for release mid-November.

Aside from being sleep-deprived, he has no complaints about the opportunity to be a working musician. So far there's been little to complain about. On the Fox reality contest, Cook gathered fans from every demographic with quirky, alt-rock polishes of the various pop, country, and classic rock songs offered up by the show's various mentors and themes. Following his triumph on the show, he set a record for new entries on the Billboard Hot 100, when 11 of his "Idol"-related recordings entered the chart in one week including his finale single "The Time of My Life."

Q: How psyched were you when you found out they were changing the "Idol" tour format to de-emphasize big group singing and dancing numbers?

A: When I heard we only had two group numbers and not much choreography, just blocking, I about jumped through the roof. I don't think I was the only one. (Laughs) I think this season especially, everyone had a firm idea musically of who they were coming in and the tour reflects that.

Q: As a big Green Day fan, what did you think when you heard Rob Cavallo was interested?

A: Rob's top tier. He came to us, and I took that as a massive compliment. We talked about what we wanted to do, and everything just clicked.

Q: What kind of a record are you hoping to make?

A: I just told Rob that I want to put out a real record, I want it to be a rock record. I want there to be an interesting vibe to it, and the three artists that I talked about were Our Lady Peace, Big Wreck, and Muse. I don't want to completely start copying other records, but I want to have interesting textures and sounds.

Q: How was it collaborating with Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace, who you covered on the show?

A: Walking in I was crazy nervous. I always expected him to be a very closed-off, brooding individual, but he's the nicest, most unassuming guy I've ever met.

Q: A lot of times people think angst-ridden songwriters will be tortured in real life, but often those people say they end up being pretty even-keeled because they're able to exorcise their demons on record.

A: It really is therapeutic. That's what really got me into music in the first place, needing an outlet to express negative energy. I think that's what's allowed me to be a little bit of a steady person.

Q: Did you write much while you were working on the show and will you be including any of your pre-"Idol" stuff on the record?

A: I didn't have a whole lot of time to write on the show. The good news is when I got off the show I had five months worth of writing to get out. June was amazingly fruitful, I think in the first three weeks we wrote about 20 songs. And then with the material I had from before the show - because I had released one record and had another record finished - I think we're in the 50s.

Q: Did you find yourself writing about your "Idol" experience or drawing from outside the bubble?

A: I think more drawing from outside of the bubble. This is such an odd experience that only roughly 160 other people can really understand. I found myself writing about it but only in a vague context because I want people to be able to internalize these songs.

Q: Have you encountered any "Cougars for Cook" on tour?

A: I have encountered a few cougars, and they've been very sweet, very respectful, and I'm glad to have them in my family. From a generic guy standpoint it's always nice when a female gives you attention. It doesn't really matter who they are or where they're at in their life it's just cool. (Laughs).

Q: You studied theater for part of your college career, do you have any designs on an acting career?

A: Basically what I told 19 and RCA is that I just want to put myself out there, and if the right anything comes along I'm certainly open to giving it a look. I may have read a script here or there, but nothing's really come out of the woodwork yet. If some huge director came up to me and said I want you to star in my movie and that's it, then maybe I gotta do it. I'm certainly not opposed to being the comedic relief.

Q: As the self-confessed "word nerd" have you managed to graduate to the Sunday Times crossword yet?

A: I have not, I'm still on Wednesday.

Q: Have you been a clue in any of the puzzles?

A: I have not. My mom has told me she's [seen] it a couple of times. I think I might have to stop doing crosswords when that happens.

Dear Mavid,

Date Night with Jason Castro

Here's the latest vlog from Jason!

Oh Cookie...just sayin'!

;o)

Teen Choice Awards 2008

I am going to say this about the 2008 TCA's.

They made me feel old.

I'm not kidding. Between the screaming for all the Disney stars who I've never heard of and Mariah Carey (lip syncing LIKE WHOA) dressing like she still thinks she's a teen, this awards show proved that it is just not for me.

I was a wee bit stoked to see LL Cool J do part of "Rock the Bells", because a) I love that song and b) I love me some LL Cool J.

I thought the Q&A with the Jonas Brothers was just boring filler, and I think they were on stage more than the host, Miley Cyrus.

And just don't even get me started on her.

I did sort of like her song.

*ducks from flying objects*

The dance-off was sort of awesome and a wee bit lame at the same time. Lame, only cause the wrong team won.

Just sayin'!

Why was I tuned in?

Do the names David Cook and David Archuleta mean anything to you?

Oh yeah, the things I do for my Idols.

Congrats to both of them, for they each won in their nominated categories.

Choice TV Male Reality/Variety Star: David Cook, "American Idol."

Choice Most Fanatic Fans: David Archuleta.

Okay, that's all.

Happy Tuesday!

You know what this means...

From David Archuleta's Myspace blog:

MY DEBUT SINGLE "CRUSH" PREMIERED ON Z100!

Hey everyone!! So you might know that "Crush" premiered for the first time on Z100 yesterday! I was SOOOO excited/nervous/anxious for everyone to hear it, and I just can't believe that it was on the radio! It was such an unbelievable moment, and it was like... watching a dream pop out of my mind into reality lol. It's just shocking when I step back and just realize what's really happening, and the possibilities that could be coming. It was so good to hear the comments from the few phone calls that came in right after the song played too, and to know that it wasn't just the teens who were able to relate to it haha. I've been looking at comments and listening to some of the messages people leave and I just wanna thank everyone A TON for leaving your comments and knowing that you like the song. It means so incredibly much to me I don't think you have any idea. Thank you thank you thank you thank you! lol. I was nervous about how it might be a song that would only relate to everyone around my age, but I realized EVERYONE has crushes or have had them. haha. But ah! I'm so excited to know you guys like it :).

I'm just here on the bus on our way to the Atlantic City show in New Jersey. So that's what we have for today. Then tomorrow Cook and I are headed to the Teen Choice Awards and will be presenting an award. It'll be pretty crazy doing all the travelling and getting up early and getting back late, but it'll also be a lot of fun! haha. Anyway that's it for now. Thanks so much everyone again for everything!

I cannot believe that I will be tuning into the Teen Choice Awards this year.

Oh goodness.

:o)
