Rihanna in "Rehab" with JT!
Rihanna - Rehab (Official Music Video) (Feat. Justin Timberlake)
HOT VIDEO.
Rihanna has now been in videos with M5 and Justin Timberlake. If she manages to pop up in one of David Cook's videos, she will officially be my hero.
I love this song. I can't believe I didn't know that Justin Timberlake wrote and produced it, because now when I hear it, I can totally hear his spin on it. I sort of wish he would record a version too.

"David Cook" - The Wait...What Review

I have been waiting for David Cook's album to come out since May 21. That would be the night he won Idol.
Never have I NOT previewed an album before the release date, but I wanted today to be a special moment.
I was supposed to be able to DL the album at 9 p.m. last night, but there was an error on Itunes' part, and hence I ended up waiting til midnight to DL from Amazon.com. I listened to 3/4 of the album before falling asleep, and then I listened to the rest this morning.
I now understand why an early review from last week called David's album, "schizophrenic". I don't think they meant it in a nasty way, I think what they were trying to convey was that David had a lot on his mind during the process of the making of the album, and it is definitely reflected in the music.
Let's go song by song, shall we?
1. Declaration - Debuted live on SNL, so I knew what to expect, which is a radio-friendly anthem. This is the song that is going to be a huge sing-a-long when Cookie finally goes on tour. There's a Bon Jovi "Living On a Prayer"-vibe waiting to happen!
2. Heroes - I was surprised that Cathy Dennis was on of the writers of this song. I had no idea that David was collaborating with her. She had some awesome songs in the early 90's. Anyways, I really do love this song. It's more than mid-tempo, and has a couple of excellent guitar riffs. It has a great message, and you know NBC's "Heroes" will totally rock that song in a promo. It's coming.
3. Light On - We love "Light On". It was the first single off his album. It's a rockin' music video. What I appreciate is that the song is placed in context of the album and was not automatically track one, because it was the single. I can tell that there was a lot of thought put into the tracklisting, which is all good.
4. Come back To Me - I would really love for this song to be the second single, that's how much I love it. The lyrics are touching and relatable. I love the line, "When you find you, come back to me". *SWOON*
5. Life On The Moon - This is introspective David Cook at his best. This song talks about life after Idol and saying goodbye to his pre-Idol life. He uses analogies in the best possible way. Word Nerd 4 Life.
6. Bar-Ba-Sol - This is the song that the reviews had said is the "must-listen". I wholeheartedly concur. This song is absolutely rockin'. I can see this being the song played at the climax of the concert or the song before the encore. It's hot.

7. Mr. Sensitive - In storyteller fashion, we learn about "Mr. Sensitive" in a very Bon Jovi-esque way. When I hear songs written this way, I always reference Bon Jovi. Mr. Bon Jovi is one of the best lyrical storytellers and Mr. Cook has amazing potential to join these ranks.
8. Lie - This is another song I can see being an eventual single. It has the contemporary rock song vibe that is pretty popular on Top 40 and AC radio formats. Thinking concert-wise, it's going to be huge! Great lyrics, great melody. I get a little bit of a Puddle of Mudd vibe from this song.
9. I Did It For You - This is one of two songs that take me back to the "Analog Heart" album. It has a similar vibe to songs on that album. It adds a sense of familiarity. I think that those who have heard "Analog Heart" probably understand what I'm saying. Hopefully, anyways.
10. Avalanche - This is the other song that I felt like it had an "Analog Heart" vibe to it. But, it could just be me. Personally, I would die of giddiness if a guy ever wrote a song like this for me. It's pure love.
11. Permanent - This is the other song that I was very curious to listen to, based on what David said his reaction was after they finished recording the song. It's a glimpse into his relationship with his older brother Adam, who has been battling brain cancer. The lyrics are filled with so much compassion and truth. It plays out not only like a letter to Adam, but also a letter to God.
I love the piano and the strings for this song. David's voice always sounds great when combined with the piano. It's a great sound for him.
This is definitely David letting the fans in and showing a very painful and personal side of his life.
12. A Daily AntheM - Based off my first couple listens to the album, this song has stayed my consistent favorite. This song is again about his brother Adam, check the title capitalization. It is a very uplifting song, which gives a positive spin on his family's situation. It is a great tribute to his brother to end his first major label album on a very high and positive note. And it definitely will leave the listener, in this case being me, wanting more.

Now if you bought the actual "David Cook" cd, there's a hidden track called, "Kiss On The Neck". My first thought after hearing this song the first time way, "HOLLA! Sign me up!" 'Nuff said.
Bonus track: Time of My Life - The "Little Rainbow That Could"! It's still truckin' along so much on the radio station here, that they have yet to add "Light On" to the rotation.
Listening to this song now after hearing The Record, the word that comes to mind is, "progression". (Drink up kids!)
My overall thinking about David's album is that he did such a wonderful job. This album was more than worth the wait! The combination of awesome melodies and intriguing, well-written lyrics has me already wanting more.
I am so proud of David and this album, it's ridiculous! He has definitely done this fan proud!

The Making of a Rock Star

It was late February when I happened to walk by the living room and heard a voice belonging to one David Cook.
It was "Hollywood Week" on American Idol and this boy and his guitar I felt had something. A month later, he would perform Lionel Richie's "Hello" during Top 16 and America would finally take notice that the Idol title was still very much up for grabs.
David would rock The Beatles, Dolly Parton, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and some chick named Mariah Carey.
It would come down to him and the contestant who many thought had the competition in the bag, David Archuleta. 56 million votes later, David Cook would be the last man standing.
David had accomplished what many in his genre had tried before and proved to America that a rocker can indeed win American Idol and not lose themselves in the mix.
A couple chance encounters with the "American Idol" during the 53-city Idols Live! tour more than proved to me that I invested my time into the right contestant.
David was warm, open and cordial with all fans. He was completely unaffected by his new-found "stardom". He came off as a guy that was just hanging out just happening to be signing autographs and taking pictures.
The end of the tour left his fans wanting more, and it was only a matter of a couple weeks that we were given a gift in the form of "Light On", the first single from his self-titled album.
November 2 would be the night the fans would finally get to hear "Light On" live, from New York on Saturday Night Live.
During the performance, it was the first time I felt like I was seeing the real David Cook perform, not David Cook "the American Idol". He was the cool and collected rocker, seeming to be singing with ease.
After the performance, we got a glimpse of the very human side of David, which seemed relieved to have the first song done with.
David's second song, "Declaration" was the return of the cool and collected rock star that left the audience to declare that he was indeed the real deal.
I firmly believe that SNL solidified David's rock star status.
Even as a fan, I am amazed that David went from standing in line in Omaha, NE to SNL.
And as a fan, I am asking ya'll to follow through with what we started. Go out and buy David's album today, tomorrow, before the week is over!
He won American Idol by 12 million votes. Can you imagine if the tiniest fraction of those voters went out and bought David's album? How amazing would that be?
David has the talent and the rockin' music. Lets give him the sales numbers to back up his rock star status. Go out and buy David's self-titled album, which I am currently listening to as I write. There are many places for you to buy it:
-Itunes
-Amazon.com
-Walmart
-Target
-Best Buy

Thank You TRL!

When I originally worked on this blog, I kept talking about why I watched it. (Hello Backstreet Boys!) But, last night while I was watching the finale of this show that I watched on and off for 10 years, it dawned on me just why this show is so important to me.
TRL is a huge reason why I love and embrace music and pop culture.
This show has all my favorite things: music, tv and movie stars. And it also had Carson Daly, who to this day I still look up to. He made music and everyone's favorite stars more accessible to us fans.
In high school, my goal was to become Carson Daly one day. I wanted to go from radio to music television and interview my favorite stars. And with my blog, I am able to bring the music and other pop culture news that I am interested in to people's attention.
In a lot of ways, TRL is very responsible for this blog. The show very much nurtured not only my love for music, but also introduced me to music I never thought I would be into.
What I loved the most about TRL was that it was live TV. That as definitely one of the reasons that I used to watch that show everyday.
I can remember the day that Norm McDonald from SNL was supposed to be on and he no-showed. TRL gave away the food they had prepped for him in his dressing room to the audience. What was even better was that they found a "Norm McDonald" in the buiilding and Carson interviewed him.
No matter if you were a fan of the show or not, you had to admit that it was definitely a force to be reckoned with. I'm talking to you, "On Air With Ryan Seacrest".
I am incredibly sad that TRL is over now. I haven't regularly watched the show since high school, but I still have tuned in from time to time to see specific guests on the show.
Again, I have to give TRL and Carson Daly props. This was the first show to have such an impact on not just me, but in the words of Limp Bizkit, "my generation".
I have to say thank you to the show that really shaped my musical tastes and has allowed me to blog about things that interest me, and compel me to share with others.
A part of me still wants to be Carson Daly. I am definitely not ruling out following in his footsteps. You never know, anything in possible.
And thank you for a final TRL performance from the Backstreet Boys!
You know that I was just loving that they came in on the final TRL countdown just a notch above *NSYNC.
BOOYAH!
Love you, miss you TRL!
And now a trip down TRL memory lane with the Backstreet Boys!
